The Beauty of Hook Bonnets

Photo from Girls in the Outdoors.

Look beyond the convention of a lure and you’ll find that lures are, well, not all that alluring. As the Girls In the Outdoors (GitO) recently noted, lures are not always the most practical bait. Pack them in your tackle box and you’re bound to pull five instead of the one you initially intended to reach for. Swing your rod and you’ll get catch unsuspecting bystanders with your lure instead of fish. To keep such unfortunate mishaps from happening, GitO suggests using hook bonnets instead. These vary in sizes and can be used on dynamic lures and lures with a treble hook. The bonnets keep the lures from getting tangled up in the tackle box but one should still be wary of fingers, clothing, etc. General convenience notwithstanding, hook bonnets are meant for the conscientious fisherman. Forget to put one on, and you and your lure will be left hanging. [Girls in the Outdoors]
